A Army buddy of mine recently acquired a Smith and Wesson .357 magnum and he plans on taking it out to Alaska to hunt with. He wants to to know what size frame the pistol is, and if anyone makes a chest holster for it. Revolvers are not my thing, so I need a little help from the ODT Smith &Wesson nerds.

My curiosity is peaked. What does your friend plan to hunt? The 686 is an L frame.
My view ,but even as back up I would want more power in Alaska.
I have no idea what he's going to hunt up there... and the pistol is going to be his back up firearm. I guess he thinks it's sufficient caliber for Alaska, and he already has the gun, I'm assuming he didn't want to buy a big bore pistol for a single hunt in Alaska.
