So I organized my ammo closet.

I have read up on prepping, and most experts seem to think that we are all pretty much boned if society were to crap the bed.

Everyone thinks they can hunt and live off the land, which is fine for about a week until the animals see everyone moving into the woods and hunting and they take off and run further out.

No communications, no electricity. Stores go empty, food spoils. People have generators which sounds good on paper, except they are noisy and when 500 starving and desperate people hear it and see you having the only lights on, they will come for your food. people with starving kids will turn into animals in order to feed them.

We can talk about having our homes fortified, but I doubt that anyone reading this is really prepared for hundreds of people storming your house, no matter how many guns you have... And if you do kill a few dozen of them, what then? The stench and disease from rotting corpses on your lawn will be a problem at some point...

Maybe a few people that already live out in rural areas with large parcels of land, and a well, might do well for a time... But anything really long term, will find most of us unprepared to actually live long like that... Millions of starving people in cities moving out in massive groups... none of us has enough ammo for that, and most won't have the willpower to mow down women and children who are simply desperate for food and water...

I think that having guns, ammo, fuel and basic supplies for a week or two of no power or infrastructure makes sense... but anything truly catastrophic and long term, will see most people truly screwed, preppers or not...

I agree with a lot of what you’ve written - And most of it may very well be the case - I’ve known a lot of preppers over the years and I know that a lot of them will not make it - having stuff matters but it’s not all that matters - Most preppers will be doomed when there’s no availability of a YouTube tutorial - Even those that do have knowledge have not applied it enough to be proficient - Much less proficient under the stress of it being anywhere near a life or death matter - Most survival types are untested and unpracticed and are survivalists in theory alone

I’ve spent a lot of time over the years applying learned skills - The word random doesn’t even begin to cover it - I make my own colloidal silver up to 30ppm and have even found medical use for the byproduct - I have successfully made several consecutive and potent batches of black powder after many trial and error failures - I’ve sutured myself up to the tune of about 150 stitches in the past 35 years - I’ve built highly functional faraday containers - Distilled my own water among other things Etc... A endless mass of working knowledge and applied application that to most would seem random and practically useless - I have enjoyed every moment - I’ve spent entire vacations roughing it minimally & remotely everywhere from costal islands to the blue ridge mountains and in the end only wishing that I could stay longer - In a SHTF zombie apocalypse I see my biggest problem as to not seem excited and content

Just goes to show what can happen.
One guy organizes a closet and announces it.
36 hours and 7 pages later topic is level of
preparedness for the end of time. One thing
indisputable is that no matter how little or
how hard they try no one has ever made it
out of here alive. Best we can hope for is a
brief postponement and no guarantee that
will be pleasant or easy. Now quick, pass me
those rice krispie marshmellow treats!

Already addressed. We’ve moved past that awkward moment where we realized half the contributors couldn’t remember what the OP posted about. At some point we will be arguing about the better way to prepare EMP chili dogs depending on whether or not you vote right.
