So the AK-47 is pre-historic and outdated for battle?

I've seen pics of Russians in Crimea with AR-10's/dpms style rifles instead of com bloc sniper rifles which I found interesting, but also still many Russian made precision rifles too.

:pound:

This guy has an AR

No... I said it was "a main reason"... not the only reason. You're taking my statement out of the context of this thread.
That is not what I'm referring to. I'm specificaly talking about mano y mano, soldier vs. jihadi gunfights.

For example, the incident in Mogadishu, Somalia. Particularly Mstr. Sgt.Randy Shugart & Sgt. 1st Class Gary Gordon... some of the bravest men to wear a uniform in my opinion.

They along with the Rangers & other 1SFOD-D soldiers wreacked havoc upon the men of Aidid and other Somalis... mainly using rifles w/ rail mounted optics.

but of course.
As a reminder the /trollface is indicative of someone being facetious. WHile I'd rather have an Ak in the "last forever or maintainable forever" context, i'd much rather hump around an AR. I have a hard time shooting an AK one handed.

With modern quality soft points and hollow points the 7.62x39 is as good as any other 30cal intermediate cartridge considering terminal ballistics. In its "war legal" forms it blows. Always wondered why the us military hasn't picked up 6.8spc or 6.5 Grendel which have crazy good wound profiles.

because they are heavy, and logistics win wars. Wound a man and his buddy carries him off, 2 birds, one stone.

Like I said, I like both rifles & value them for their good qualities but get frustrated w/ their weaknesses.
