Stored batteries!! Don’t do what I did!!!

I was one of the first hunting safety instructors. One of our standard demonstrations was to take a couple of D cell batteries, and some OOOO steel wool, and show how you can start a fire by putting the steel wool between the terminals. Doesn't take but a second.

Reminds me a couple days ago was on the mule with wife and we road over to my daughters across rd. I had a 6 v from my deer feeder in one of the cup holders. Wife had some stuff in cardboard box and sat it on what would be dash if it was a car , well it slidover and we didn’t notice till the bottom of the box caught fire. It had pushed the spring ends together and shorted. Really good reminder, thx for sharing

Surprised 9v aren't sold with ultra cheap plastic toppers.

I used to buy 9V in bulk cases for wireless mics, guitar pickups, and test equipment; they came with little plastic tops. Some even had an extra little plastic piece that flexed and turned white when removed (useful to prove it was a "new" battery for a rider).
