I am going with state. And yes. There is a form to fill out, probably about 30-45 days ahead of time. You'll need approval.

I had no idea. I thought you could travel say to Alabama (CMP range) and it's okay as long the silencer is legal to own there. MGs were another animal but I thought suppressors were okay.

You can get the “permission” for a year on the form also

I'm not 100% positive either way. But I know I was supposed to if I took my SBR's out of the state. That's why I keep pistol lowers laying around. I assume it's the same for any NFA items.
