Cool thing is, folks can get into this sort of shooting at cheaper price than they ever could before.
Rifles like the Bergara B14 HMR, Ruger Precision Rifle, and various Salvages are highly capable of going 1,000yds+ accurately, in calibers like .308 and 6.5CM. Those are rifles that won't break the bank.
Optics like the Vortex Viper PST, and various offerings from Bushnell and Burris, get you a truly capable optic at a reasonable price.

Ha Ha! In the civilized shooting sport of IBS the closest we get to the 1000yrd down range target is sitting at the bench. They hang the target and put out clay pigeons for sightseers on the bank in-between targets. When shooting is completed the targets are pulled and scored with the winning targets hung on the wall in the picture.
