The "Moving Ammo Within Georgia?" thread has me wondering...

I know this isn’t the same thing exactly, we were at hunting camp, earlier in the day some of the kids there went to shoot their 22 rifles, they put bullets in a foam cup, that night we were drinking beer by the camp fire and my buddy grabbed trash off the table and threw it in the fire. Pop pop pop I was sitting by the fire it took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on, I dove for cover. 10 people were standing around the fire no one got hurt, we think the bullets just burst the shell and the projectile really do got far.

When I was a little **** in the 80’s, we’d scotch tape Granpappys 22 rounds inside of drinking straws and chuck them bitches in the air and beat feet!!! Good times being a adolescent dip **** :pound: :grouphug:! A little pop and on rare occasion the bullet would not even get outa the straw!
My buddies and I Would do something similar with 16 gauge and 12 gauge shotgun shells rolled them in a piece of notebook paper and the weight would cause the shotgun shell to fall down like a lawn dart, rim-first (which means primer first).
To make sure the primer was detonated on impact with the pavement (it would only work if done over hard surfaces) we would use a piece of chewed bubblegum to attach a steel 177 caliber BB right to the primer .

They were 90 % reliable. When one of them went off as expected all you had to do was look down or shield your eyes with your hands and let the pellets rain down all around you.

That other thread got me thinking. Has anyone had a case, box or storage container of factory loaded ammo discharge or explode while in transit? Not like "totalled my truck, caught fire and my ammo blew up", but "I dropped an ammo can of .45 ACP off the truck and it just blew up." Anyone?

*even more interested in first hand stories, and less in "I heard about a buddy of mine's friend that dropped a crate of 7.62x39..."
