Widow Jane is solid stuff, but pulled this straight Rye finished in Apple Wood out for the weekend. Forgot how good it was...kinda hard to find, but worth it...

Haven't tried but I'm usually not a fan of staves in wine or whiskey, I'm not saying there isn't a good way to do it, but its a pretty big shortcut and the people/companies that usually are the ones taking shortcuts are probably taking them elsewhere too.
I get your point but I don't think that can be applied broadly. Maker's Mark, ASW, and others that use a finishing stave process are putting out some respected and delicious bottles. Having said that, I haven't heard much good about Broken Barrel.

I gave my brother a bottle of their georgia heartwood whiskey over the holidays and gave it a try, it wasn't bad, it was even pretty good, I wouldn't say it was close to the best in the ~80 range that it was in though. I only tried it once but I remember it feeling still a little hot/rough and a little thin in the mouth. Not disappointed in it but wouldn't buy it again.

I did read from a guy who went and made their store pick, that it varied quite a bit barrel to barrel .

Not much yet but trying to get into bourbon . Not a fan of the buffalo trace though . Don't know if it's the whiskey taste I don't like or what . I rarely drink , save for a cold beer every blue moon so that could be the problem . Looking to crack that Eagle Rare and Weller soon . Hopefully the Weller will be a little softer on the palate .

Hate to break it to you, but BT is about as basic, plain jane bourbon as it gets. The ER is also a BT product, and you'll find it's even more complex than the Buffalo Trace. The Weller has wheat in the recipe, so it will have an altogether different flavor profile than the other two. Weller is also a BT product. You may find the wheated bourbon more to your liking. Try the Buffalo Trace again with a tiny splash of water or one ice cube. Bourbon/whiskey is truly an acquired taste. Good luck.
