I have a bad case of 1911 fever. I've taken a liking to those new Springfield Garrison 1911s, so I went to a local store to check one out and it wasn't until I had it in my hand that I realized I don't really know what to look for. What should I be looking for when inspecting a 1911?
As one example, I've heard that the barrel bushing are ideally supposed to be somewhat tight, but with the hammer back and while pushing in the GI style guide rod the pistol had, the barrel bushing was so loose I could easily move it with one finger. Is that normal or too loose? I don't really know how to inspect these pistols. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
