To change to 134A or stay with R12 system

It is supposed to cycle on and off. Probably not as quick as yours is. Never cycling off is an overcharge symptom.

Are you sure it isn't 134a? I was under the impression that 1994 was the year all new vehicles in the US were mandated to be 134a.

It was 1996. Some manufacturers changed before the mandate.

Actually it was model year 1995 that all manufacturers had to use R134a. Kahrnut is right though...some manufacturers did it early. BMW was one I remember; but there were a couple of others. I owned and operated an AC shop at the time; and all the new equipment required to service R134a was an added expense for me.

If it’s blowing cold I wouldn’t worry about it

Just make sure the front damage isn’t going to cause any lines to rub against something

You can still buy cans of r12 here and there on Craigslist if you just need to add a little

I bought a 86 Mazda for $200 and just filled it with 134 and it worked fine for several years
I didn’t do any conversion or change any parts other than screwing the adapters to the port
