Thinking about putting a tornado shelter in garage or under stairs.

I have read that weather patterns are shifting tornado alley from the lower midwest to the southeast-and I am starting to believe it.

I do know we have seen a LOT more dangerous storms in my area over the past couple decades and that anecdotally, the storms I am seeing are much taller on radar.

Anyhow, considering a tornado shelter, and wondering if y’all have gone that route. Wondering what brands and types you like…

I have one the previous owner installed, its about 6x10 ands sunk into the floor with a sliding hatch on top, we throw a futon matress and pillows down there very nice little hot but have a battery powered fan keeps it fine, throw some food and water and batteries. Good nice peace of mind. Only downside is trying to keep it bug free, they always find their way down there and have to stay on top of the spiders

I have there in ground one and it's been great the last 2 years. My family of 4 has slept in it a few times but usually we spend an hour or so in it.

Following.

Fortunately, I've always had a safe place where I live. Current is probably the best I've ever had. 1st was a closet in basement up against foundation wall. 2nd, same with a staircase. 3rd, split foyer in basement under a staircase. But the safest, you'd have to crawl in that spot. Getting too old for that. Knees mainly. Current is like a safe room, storm cellar. Below ground level

Inward-swing door, not a lift-up hatch, not a push open from the inside. Room not inside the house in case (house) collapses upon your ability to get out.

I like the Home Depot 1000 gallon 1-piece poly tanks with 24” round screw-top opening. I personally would bury it aprox 3/4 deep and maybe put a cheap utility shed over top to hide from nosey neighbors or code enforcement
Got any examples? Pictures or plans for that? 2ft diameter entry holes?
