Unwelcomed Suprise at Adventure Outdoors

The last time I attempted to purchase a gun at AO I was aware of their "discount policy". I was prepared to pay cash but they told me I had to pay BEFORE I filled out the 4473. They told me that they wouldn't refund the cash if their computers went down or something else went wrong with the background check. They said I could get a credit for future purposes. No thanks.
Elf that

How come no one has said anything about the nice man in the suit at AO that says God Bless you when you are leaving the store? He for sure used to work at Chic-Fi-La with the God Bless you’s. I just need to hear him say “my pleasure” to confirm this.

Because they're busy getting the 'TSA' pat down on the way out.

I don't like the cc fee, but as long as it's upfront, which it is, it's my decision. The help is not too bad...like the lady who goes around handing out little copies of the US Constitution.

My problem is that it takes 45 min to get out of there after I tell them I want the gun. I've bought from numerous retailers, and can get out of a store in generally about 15 minutes. AO has so many people touch it before it leaves, even including the guy at the door like Costco has.....and he's 10 feet away from the register where I checked out.

But....I'm willing to put up with it if the price is right. I still reserve the right to bitch though,

I like how Georgia Power still charges a $4.00 "convenience fee" if you want to pay your bill online with a CC or DC. LOL! NOPE! You can keep handling my paper checks.
I pay online. Don't recall ever seeing a convenience fee. They send the bill to my bank electronically, then I tell my bank to pay them directly. All electronic. Badda book, badda boom.

On the north side of town today with time to spare thought I would browse Adventure Outdoors. Ran across a Ruger PC9 on sale - I'll take it - spur of the moment purchase.

Completed the paperwork, at the register to pay. Was asked how I would be paying - debit card - was told there was an additional 3% added for card purchases. I was shocked, never expected that at a major retailer. I wasn't going to pay that.

Cashier stated I signed a customer statement agreeing to the charge, he also stated I could use the ATM machine in the store to withdraw the cash if I wanted to avoid the 3% charge.

I walked out without the purchase, half angry half in a daze. Now I realize that I have several questions I should have asked; however, can someone tell me if that is Adventure Outdoors policy for card purchases?

Not that unusual for Credit Cards, but not sure that it's legal to charge for a true Debit Card.

From: https://www.valuepenguin.com/credit-card-surcharges-convenience-fees

"Surcharges cannot be imposed on debit or prepaid debit transactions. This holds true even if a cardholder chooses "credit" as an option when using their debit card."
