Atleast year correct or time period correct relatively speaking... there are a few different periods of the Garand's service (not to mention manufacturers and armories to correct it even further) like for instantance... an early serial number Garand would have a "gas-trap" style gas cylinder, a ww2 Garand has the lock bars sights and the early style gas plug (lower case t) or "Winchester only used this wood and these stamps for their stocks" or a late model Garand would have the darker finishes and nicer stocks on them because they took more time per M1,etc... just depends on how detailed you'd like to get with said rifle and how deep the M1 rabbit hole you'd like to go.
Now to me atleast its cool but that style of collecting/m1 refurb is like muscle cars... cost lot of dough, time and you wont get the money you put into it out of it not to mention it decreases the value and you risk ruining one of a few period correct M1's if you actually want to play with it from time to time. Now some period correct esp. early or WW2 stuff does go for big bucks but it cost a fortune if you have to buy almost every part individually and can take years... but to some that's just your hobby, which is cool just be warned.lol
