Watched a cop abuse an animal pretty badly yesterday

How so? I realize that it probably should have been brought up sooner, but I was quite literally was unable to stop what I was doing and do that at the time. I was just looking for some input here on if I'm overthinking this.
I'd try to report it myself. It's disturbing behavior to say the least. Will they do anything or even say anything to the deputy? My experience says no. But you'll have tried. He should at least be told to stop being cruel to animals in public.

You are not overreacting.

I agree with you completely: I am not against the humane euthanasia or management of stray or nuisance animals, but it must be done quickly and without cruelty.

However, my own reaction would have been extreme. I would have likely confronted the officer immediately, in the middle of traffic, raising hell until I was arrested and a formal report was made. I would be recording the entire interaction. Any prior arrangements or places I needed to be could absolutely wait.

I see what you are saying. I've seen enough body cam videos to know that getting pissed at a cop is a quick way to get arrested though. I was not interested in taking it that far in the moment, sorry to disappoint lol.

Not a problem at all. That's just the way I personally choose to roll and fight the good fight when I can.

My reasoning is simple: if I get arrested, a formal report will be filed, information will be officially collected, and the incident will necessarily come to the attention of a judge, a prosecutor, and the officer's supervisors.

Avoiding an arrest for a prior commitment is absolutely a reasonable choice. :D

I think I'll ring up the office later today and make my statement. Like yall said, they may do nothing, but at least I tried. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen or heard of this particular Sheriff's department doing something questionable.

Back in October a drunk dude walked up to a deputy and clocked him in the head at the best late night gas station. Out of nowhere five more deputy's appeared and got him to the ground, absolutely wailing on the dude. Justified if you ask me, but they beat the absolute **** out of that guy. Eventually they finished beating him and swung him into the back of a car. It was an epic street vid.
