Yep was Brown timber then Plum creek then Weyerhaeuser bought them and all they care about is the all mighty dolla. Glad I don’t hunt anymore one less headache

Timberland isn't taxed like a home or small farm. It's usually designated agriculture, conservation, etc., and assessed at a considerably lower rate. Companies are doing fine, too. International Paper's earnings were up for the first three quarters this year compared to 2016.It's all about the property taxes.
Mine are 5x higher than when I moved in 15 years ago. 5X!
Timber companies can't remain profitable with that kind of tax structure.
