What are we using in 2022? I’m clear it’s not the season, but what’s a good 7.62x39 round for whitetail?

I’m not buying a 308, or a 7mm-08, or a 280 ultra flaming skull winchester mag. I have 7.62 and I have a rifle that shoots it.

I have been stocking up on these. I like Win Power Points for heart / lung shots because they are fast expanding bullets. Stay off of the shoulder .

I've been using 7.62x39 since late 90's on whitetail. Currently using Hornady SST rounds (good luck finding them) since they group better. Before that I used Wolf 123 HP for many years. I will say that the only rounds that have failed to ignite are the Wolf/brown bear SP ammo. If you can find some of the 8M3 (I think correct description) pre-scored fragmenting HP ammo it is brutal on whitetail deer. I haven't tried any brass cased 7.62x39 for hunting as I have a lot of the other on hand so I can't speak to its terminal performance. Shot placement is most important thing deer hunting either way.

I have good accuracy and expansion with these, i use a bolt rifle.
Did i mention cheap ? Some still can be found around 10$.

All of the above.

7.62x39 is a very effective round within 200 yards, further distances you had better be top of your game and shot placement.

Custom loaded hunting ammunition is another choice.
