What disease does this deer have? *warning pictures of a deer being field dressed in this thread*

Simple infection maybe?
Arrow or gun wound?

When I was a meat cutter and processed deer part time we would occasionally run into cancer that looked a lot like that as far as color and texture. I only saw tumors from time to time but they looked very similar to that, especially when we hit them with a bandsaw blade inadvertently. Side note- every processor and retail chain I worked at the affected piece(s) were discarded and not passed on to the customer or hunter.

My guess would be something like pneumonia.
Did we ever figure this out?
With a good microscope from a yard sale and The YouTube, we can figure this out.

As a paramedic it looks like infection and a long lasting one at that. Maybe cancer in the lungs or just pneumonia. I read the comments I hate to waste a deer but getting sick over one isn't worth it. Keep us posted.

Way back when this happened the whole carcass was chunked to the coyotes. We haven't seen anything else on our club land that had this affliction.
