What kind of spider is this?

While cutting my grass I came across this nasty looking fellow on the yellow plastic that they put over telephone pole support cables to make them visible. He was like an inch in the body.

I had door to garage open for a few minutes this mornin so assume it came in from there. I set it on fire.....hate spiders.

Fire is the best way to rid a spider's existence.

Yep, you are correct Stringbender. I do not like spiders, snakes, and really, bugs in general. Kill them, and kill them with Fire!

This one is also called a St Andrew's Cross spider and it is harmless. If the above spider is a HOBO spider it is poisonous! I have also been seeing alot of Brown Widow spiders lately. A can of Brake Cleaner from Advanced Auto parts will kill them all and wasps as well. It's cheaper, leaves no residue and kills them dead within seconds.

Had a couple of these around the house before, they build HUGE webs and then take them back down every morning. They'll eat anything you can get into their web.. Definately outdoor pets.

The ones I don't like are the big black ones that carry their babies on their back, made the mistake of trying to squish one once and had what looked like a million litte spiders running all over the floor. Brake cleaner stopped that real fast.

Looks like a wolf spider to me. Ive seen those around my house before, but spiders really don't bother me. Its snakes I can't stand.
