Also suppressing anything, including the 5.56, is just making something that's really loud... loud. Still need ears. I'd say as above poster, the flash suppression is the main goal.

I run a sandman s with a 5.56 endcap. Though lately it's been staying on the .300 blk out, .30 cal endcap. Bought a .30 can to be able to use on multiple pew pews.
Single round from an 11.5” is straight pain without a can if you forget your earpro. It’s doable for an entire magazine with a quality can. Plus shooting outdoors it’s nice not to irritate everyone within a mile radius.
This, reduces muzzle flash in low light tactical situations and muzzle report in enclosed situations
One could extend that logic and ask what’s the point of an AR15 in 5.56? Why not go .308 and deliver three times the energy downrange? The 5.56 was designed for weight savings back when soldiers were 5’8” and 140 pounds. Now, thanks to hormone laden red meat and GMO corn, everyone is 6’2” 220 pounds.

Touch a 556 off in a hallway or stairwell. You will want a can. The only downside is 3/4 lb of extra weight and I guess compensator/brakes do a better job keeping the pointy end in the right direction.
