What's the point of a silencer on a 5.56x45 AR 15?

Also suppressing anything, including the 5.56, is just making something that's really loud... loud. Still need ears. I'd say as above poster, the flash suppression is the main goal.
 
Just wondering if there is something I'm missing.
They won’t know where it came from….yes, it makes its own crack, but hiding the initial report is a lifesaver. You knew that, you were just wondering who else did…besides, if you heard the boom, you weren’t the target…
 
One could extend that logic and ask what’s the point of an AR15 in 5.56? Why not go .308 and deliver three times the energy downrange? The 5.56 was designed for weight savings back when soldiers were 5’8” and 140 pounds. Now, thanks to hormone laden red meat and GMO corn, everyone is 6’2” 220 pounds.
