What's your gun owner approach? Only own what you shoot? The more, the better?

I've recently had the same thoughts as the OP. In December of 2011, I had 3 guns: A P32, Mossberg Maverick and S&W380. When my father-in-law gave us a Glock 19 for Christmas that year, all hell broke loose. In the year and half since, I've amassed 25+ slingshots in addition to $5K in ammo. I also have 3 on layaway at Bud's (I need help). I guess I bought into a little of the panic buying due to our current economic/political system.

I'm now re-assessing my "needs" vs. "wants" and am slowing purging some items in favor of quality over quantity. I did buy some junk this last year (another KelTec, an ATI, etc.), but have rid myself of most of those. I plan to post a few more up this week and get down to a more manageable level.

On the plus side, 90% of my ammo was bought pre-panic (still high for you old-timers), but I'd venture a guess that if I sold it all at current, non-gouging prices, I'd have a 50% return!

Investments Guns are a lot more fun than stocks and bonds and they keep going up and they dont come back down my first Mini 14 new at Franklins was $179 and i dont have to check the market every day

I buy what I want and makes me happy. Some I shoot and some I hope I never need to shoot.
Firearms are one of the safest and best investments you can make.
Once they are ever needed I feal quite sure I would have no trouble selling a KelTec.
And there is that old saying... One man's junk is another man's treasure.

If I find a good deal on something I'll buy it if I have the funds even if I don't want it to keep and then use it to trade on for something I do want.

i buy quality to high quality firearms that peak my intrest. but im not made of money so if they arnt in use they normaly get posted for sale/trade on the ODT

I shoot what I buy. I hate collections of anything. If something doesn't get used it gets sold.

I know people that would rather buy 4 Glocks than the CZ I bought. I rather have the CZ.

Quality > quantity.

To me, guns are tools. I would rather have a full set than a bare minimum. Every gun I own has a specific use although many could do more than one intended task. I don't tend to buy a gun just to own it. I buy based on a need and the gun that best fills that need. I also buy guns based on consolidated calibers and never buy a fad gun or odd ball caliber. The only guns I have that fill duplicate roles are my rifles and the only reason I have three different calibers is because two of them were gifts. I have plenty of ammo for the guns I have and use all of them on a fairly regular basis. The only time I tend to sell a gun is if I find one that will replace it more efficiently.

I have owned many guns that I never even shot. I enjoy the mechanics and esthetics of firearms more than shooting. and I LOVE shooting.
