We all know @biker13 still has his ammo from participating in the "War of Northern Aggression", but when do you rotate out your defense rounds?

Does anyone date their stuff and shoot it after a certain date or does it just get stacked deep until the zombie apocalypse or teoftwawki happens?

I've never once in my life concerned myself with the 'age' of any ammo. I've also never had any that failed to go boom. I have a chunk of it that is older than a bunch of members on these boards.
But for those concerned about it, I have a nice retirement home for your "old" ammo, free of charge. Make your reservations now. Space is limited (well not really, I'll make more).

You are so generous and helpful :thumb:

Agreed. As long as moisture doesn't get to it, should be fine, within reason.

I don't conscientiously rotate ammo but I do believe in training with my SD rounds, usually Winchester PDX1, so I'll shoot and replenish. I've heard of OLD ammo still going bang so I dont worry too much about it going bad.

Started marking purchase dates on mine about 20 years ago, just so I'd shot oldest first. Still got some unmarked boxes, some probably 35+ in age. I've shot 50+ year old ammo that had no issues. 'Course mine's all in climate controlled storage area, 70 degrees, low humidity.
Only issues I've ever had was 2 boxes of 20 yr old CCI Blazer .45 ACP aluminum cased crap that every round had dead primers. First and last experience with aluminum cases.
Anyone got any info on longevity of the newer mercury/lead free primers? Approximate timeline when they were phased in?
