Where did you take Basic training or Boot Camp?

I took Basic twice. The second time at Ft Benning Feb 1961 with the 2nd ID on Sand Hill. The Division was reforming from Korea. The unit I took basic in was B Btry 6th Howitzer Bn 37th Arty. They wanted to keep me in the unit and I said no thanks and was transferred to 122nd Sig Bn in the Division. Three of my buddies.

Lackland AFB, SEP '85.

It was a thousand degrees. We made "Honor Flight". Pretty sure that meant we could march without stepping on each other, lol.

Then Sheppard, then Altus before finally hitting the links on beautiful Charleston AFB, SC in between paid weekly international travels as an aircrew member on the venerable workhorse of the Military Airlift Command, the C-141-B Starlifter.

Fort Jackson SC during the worst, driest, hottest summer the South east has ever seen. Got there the first week of June and left 16 Aug. The smell of the pine was etched in my mind forever, 20 years later I moved to GA and that smell took me right back to Fort Jackson.
