I have contemplated putting a red dot on my lever action 500. Currently it has a scout scope set up with a Leupold. This would be for hunting. Not just a range toy.

Pros & Cons? Accuracy?

I've thought about doing the same thing. I've recently pulled the scope off my Marlin 336 30-30 and was going to retire it until my son is big enough and pass it down. However I can't seem to put it up just yet.

Most red dot will mount on a weaver or picatany style rail. Just have to check. Plenty of offerings for both style mounts for lever guns

I had a 50mm red dot optic
on a Marlin 39A lever action rimfire.

It looked weird, but gave me faster snap shooting
and tighter groups
than I could get with open sights.
