Yes, but with the stockpile of WWII guns, it is unlikely that the Army would have purchased the new, more expensive 870 and gotten to the front lines by 1952/53.

I still have a lot of his clothes and I still camp with his issued cold weather down sleeping bag. That thing is comfortable!
