Why are gen3 g17 at the same cost as gen5 g17 with night sights?

I have a lefty in the house, so I got a gen5 17, but when trying to get 2 gen3 g17 for the others the prices are more of if “lucky” they are almost the same price. I never understood why flocks on here people list them either more or the same what the brand new price is, and it is wide spread thing. What is the logic?

IIRC the G3 was the last model with the real tough outer coating. All the G4-G5 had DLC coating that would rub off or scratch easier than the original G3s.

There's a lot of 3d printed and 80% gen 3 compatible glock clones, so I think there's more of a market for people buying gen 3 glocks for parts for that kind of stuff. A lot of the kits people bought had bad or out of spec third party parts, and many of them could be out of stock too. I don't know what the market is like now but during covid there was definitely time when you could buy a gen 3 glock at msrp and sell everything but the receiver from it for more than you paid, even better deal if it was on sale.

The gen 3 glock is also the last glock that is legal to sell in CA, so there could be some market effects there holding the price steady.
