Why did this timing belt fail at only 60k miles?

You supposed to change it at 50k

( I would check to see if it is an interference motor before I just tore it down. )

Get that head tested. What do all the valve stems and guides look like? Every nail doesn't look like it got hit by a hammer, but odds are that's how it got in the board.

I just did this one for my buddy, only took a few hours.

Ford heater core was only 52$

Yes. I was able to locate factory oem this time. I’ll end up with around 12hrs with this one. Hell, I’m old and slow and when the bourbon buzz starts I quit wrenching. Plus, I’m pretty f’n anal about s**t being put back correctly.

All those exhaust valves touched. Look at the carbon transfer. Thanks to the valve reliefs it not catastrophic, but that far right one looks tweaked.

Was gonna post the same thing. Only I didn't notice the carbon on the valves, I noticed the lack of carbon on the pistons lol

No I was going to leave those on when I take it to the machine shop so they can turn it over

Honda says 70k. I was just thinking about when I was going to change it but I had no idea it was already that bad.

Yeah you did....Honda 2.3's are listed as interference, but in my 30 plus years I have never seen one bend valves. Shoulda thrown a belt on as suggested and tried it.

Meh….at least you get to re-seal everything and clean it all up, check it out good and all.
