Was gonna post the same thing. Only I didn't notice the carbon on the valves, I noticed the lack of carbon on the pistons lolAll those exhaust valves touched. Look at the carbon transfer. Thanks to the valve reliefs it not catastrophic, but that far right one looks tweaked.

( I would check to see if it is an interference motor before I just tore it down. )
Yeah you did....Honda 2.3's are listed as interference, but in my 30 plus years I have never seen one bend valves. Shoulda thrown a belt on as suggested and tried it.Well crap did I just tear this down for nothing? Everything looks fine to me
