Point the muzzle to the floor then drop the weight through. Then stand on the string with both feet and lift the barrel to pull the snake through. Don’t Oil the snake until after you have it started.

I have purchased used guns from folks over the years who share this same view of firearm maintenanceI don’t clean my guns. I just shoot them until they are filthy and then sell them and buy a new one.
Kidding….kinda

One of the things I found helpful was to make sure the lead part had the product on it in a sufficient quantity, and then of course run a couple patches through it some light oil and run a couple more patches throughSome don't like them because they can get stuck in a barrel if not used correctly or used for too long. I don't clean them, they're cheap enough I just chuck them when they get that nasty. I also only use them as a quick clean, barrels still get a real bore brush to really clean them.

I use them for quite a few calibers and have given them to new shooters in the family with a cleaning kit (cleaning rods with brushes and swatch holders with swatches and Q-tips. And, Break-Free CLP if I can find it along with showing how to take down and clean each part prior to reassembly.)One of the good guys @Phydoux was kind enough to give me some well-needed componentry. One of the things was a barrel that have a lot of surface rust and the bore looked pretty shabby. I did my usual cleaning and then decided to run a bore snake through it with some good old number nine, after a couple passes it looks pretty darn good. Why doesn't anyone ever mention boresnake?
Is it chuck or chunk? That’s actually a big debate in my household. Some don't like them because they can get stuck in a barrel if not used correctly or used for too long.
