I carry a 1911 but that is out of personal preference. That may differ from many folk's preference. Whatever you choose to carry makes no matter to me, choose whats the best fit for you. I am intimately familiar with my CCW and can shoot it accurately. That is what matters the most.
I prefer my g19 for overall size, weight, capacity, fit and function but appeciate the 1911 for its...uniqueness. All these after market "trigger upgrades" for tactical tupperware (striker fired polymer pistols) are no comparison to a good 1911 trigger. One of the guys reasoning in the article for the 1911 for edc was reliability. But thats the one reason i have heard not to carry one (mostly the subcompacts-3 inch barrels) due to lack of reliability cuz its cut down size. I dont know first hand (cuz i am a glock guy) but all the talk about it would cause me concern unless i personally shot a lot of carry ammo down range in some of these ECQC training classes or something similar. It seems when pushed, the lil 1911s choke and have issues. Thanks for the the feedback fellas
I was concerned about that too, as I prefer to carry with the hammer back and safety engaged. After enough practice, disengaging the safety is as routine as activating a light/laser or even pulling the trigger. The 1911 is the most accurate pistol I’ve ever shot. The grip angle and weight/balance just work well for me. But, it’s not an EDC option for me. Too heavy for my comfort level and I don’t like the idea of having to disengage a safety before firing in an emergency situation. But that’s just my personal preference.
Exactly.Just a side note. Any gun can choke if you limp-wrist, etc under pressure. There's a video of a security guard at a bank that has to clear his Glock for that very reason.
Objectively the 1911 is a poor choice for EDC:
1. Limited to 7-8 rounds in a magazine vs 15-17 in a G19/G17.
2. Requires the use of a manual safety
3. With current bullet choices/improved projectile technology 45 is no more effective than 9mm
