Wife needs heart valve fixed.

Not sure how good the hospitals are now. They all seem short of staff. My last stay at Kennestone they had stuff on my chart that was incorrect. Nurse gave me wipes to clean myself, but put them where I couldn't reach them. Piedmont has a new cardiovascular building that I want to check into.
Yes on short staff, always. I ran a low grade fever every night. If it hadn't been for my wife, I don't know what would've happened.
I don't think y'all will have those issues with what she's having. Definitely do your homework. I didn't have that kind of time. Everyone else I've known has had a better time than I did. But they didn't have a heart attack

Prayers for a safe and good procedure with a speedy recovery !

I really hope everything goes well, that includes the staff and the things that can make the patient recover faster or slower. Even given the same medical procedures with same things after care, the difference in a staff that cares and one that causes worry can make a huge diff in healing . Just the attitude of staff can make a big diff.
Good luck and may God be with y’all !

We have a couple of appointments, but not wanting open heart, it's pretty much the only option. She had an echo in May at Kennestone and they weren't worried about it, but two weeks ago another showed the valve was bad. She's 78, so it really worries her.
My 93 yr old grandfather had one last year and came out fine. My 73 year old dad had one a few months ago. He was fine after a couple of weeks. She’ll need cardiac rehab for a while after but they’re pretty common these days. Emory is as good as anywhere in the world at them.

If they aren’t doing things that you think are not up to par, do not hesitate to say something ! Talk to hospital administrators if you need to ! It is wholly their job to take exceptional care of her and make family comfortable . They also need to keep you informed , completely.

Last year I had open heart surgery at Kennestone. I don’t know the history of your wife there but I could not be happier with Dr Myugn and my outcome. TAVR was not an option for me. I have four cardiologists I can recommend. Please private message me if you want to reach out.

Wife has a heart valve that's real bad. Anyone have experience with a TAVR procedure?
She doesn't want open heart and doesn't want to go to Kennestone after her last experience there and mediocre reviews.

God's speed! I had open heart in 2008 to replace my pulmonic valve (lifetime heart issues). Man, I was a wreck after for a while. At the time, TAVR was new and only available in two of the other three valves (not sure which). They can replace all now, and are on Gen 3. My valve exhausted it's fifteen year life this year, and needed another. I was a perfect candidate for the TAVR. Mine was replaced two months ago, and it was a BREEZE! I was in on a Tuesday morning, and was home at 5:00 on Wednesday afternoon. I love me some pain meds, but they weren't even needed overnight or after. Two congenital echos later, they say the valve is working as good, if not better, than my 53-year old heart should look. Both surgeries done at the Clifton Emory. Super professional, all the way down to the room cleaners. After my open heart, I was out of work for six weeks; after the TAVR, it was five days. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions. I would always chat on the phone if you'd like...

I have not had any experience with the procedure - yet. Is that the one where they go in through the groin? My "valve specialist" cardiologist kind of gave me the option of that or open-heart surgery when they have to do mine, in a couple of months. I have already had one open heart back in 2004 and one is more than enough.

Prayers sent for your wife.
