Window Tint... Should it be Illegal

It serves a function and looks good. Except for when it's too dark, then it just looks cheap and tacky, and maybe you are hiding something. lol
 
What is the main idea behind the law and why are cops allowed to have it dark?
It has been explained to me that its for the officer's safety. If they pull you over supposedly you can have a gun pointed at the through the window and they'll be unable to see it.

Only kids and criminals run 5%. Which are you and what are you hiding?
 
Personally, I think you have the right to hide whatever you want in your vehicle. Just because you're hiding something (from criminals or the law) it doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.

That being said, 5% windows aren't safe. If you have to roll down your window to see at night, it's wrong.
 
Back in the late 80's a friend of mine had an Audi Coupe and it had around 5% tint. It was great in the summer during the day. The car stayed so much cooler. At night you couldn't see through the windows, and certainly not when backing up. My 4Runner has around 35% and it keeps it cooler inside. I'd like it a bit darker to keep out prying eyes. I must be a criminal.
