Would your untrained family dog protect you or your family from an intruder?

Not an intruder, but we had an untrained dog that did save my wife's life. She was outside with the German Shepherd, on a leash while the gas man was filling the propane tank. After filling the tank he started acting strange and asking her different and stupid questions. Every time he took a step toward my wife the dog would stand up and growl and pull on the leash. The gas man got the hint and left. Either that afternoon or the next morning, can't remember which, the same man killed a lady that he was filling her propane tank up.

That's a really good question. I think it can be caused by a variety of things. Behavior of the owner, behavior of the suspicious person, but most commonly I thnk they are just spooked because of the different skin color. Kind of like why some dogs bark at people wearing a hat.

Mine are aggressive to beards and hoods(on jackets), not sure why.

LOL My boxer would wear you out if you came into my house wearing a hoodie. Buddy of mine teased him wearing one. Put a cat in the hood part, drove the dog nuts. He made the mistake of coming to the house wearing the same hoodie a month later, dog took him down and tore the hood clean off.

I have a Lab (a friendly one), but what I have taken from this thread is everyone (excepting those that clarified) owns a bad-ass attack dog, even if they were not trained. Cool.

Nah, mine are not what you would call bad ass but they will confront you if you come onto the "manor-estate" lol in an aggressive way. See my previous posted pic earlier in the thread.
