I have gotten fantastic results. Anybody else use 4227?
I'm also looking for suggestions on other powders! I've got two pounds of 4227 left then I wasn't to see if I can get better results with something else. I also have a pound of hs-6. I plan in using it to load some 38 special

nope never used 4227, used Bullseye and universal for 357 mag, both worked well, can be a tad smoky at less than full load with hardcast

W296 or its sister H110.

Use a heavy crimp and a magnum primer--I use a small rifle primer.

I have also used 4227 and prefer 296.

How does w296 play if you use a reduced load? Also almost every bullet Weight cast or jacketed has data for 4227. I use plated bullets in 125 grain and 158 grain. So I try to keep em under 1300 fps load data.

I believe w296, H110, and MP300 are the same exact powder.

OP: i have never tried any reduced loads with 4227 or 296. I did work up from (max - 10 percent) and they were all accurate.

W296 and H100 (Both Hodgdon and their web show same loads for both in 357mag) are but MP300 gives a little better velocity with less pressure and cheaper

but very close

I believe that I read in one one the reloading mags that the MP300 is the exact same. Alliant may have used a different test procedure, barrel, length, ect.

For a reduced load: W231, HP38, Unique, Universal, AA#5, as well as any other medium burn rate powder will all work well.

W231(same powder as HP38) is a fairly fast burning powder, but it works great and is accurate in both the 357 and 10mm for lighter loads.

296 is NOT recommended for less than "Full Power" Loads...HTH....mikey357
