My father passed away last year and I inherited his M1 carbine and several hundred rounds of 30 carbine ammo. The ammo was some I reloaded in 1972 using military brass, Herter's primers, 110 grain Herter's bullets, and 12.5 grains of IMR2400. The ammo had been stored in a closed ammo can but had spent the last 30 years in the hot attic in St. Augustine Beach, FL. I planned on pulling the bullets and replacing the powder and primers. I started to pull the bullets today and then decided to try some out. I put 5 of them in a magazine expecting them to misfire. I was very surprised that all 5 rounds fired. I had used a sealing compound on the primers. I believe Herter's primers and bullets were made in Belgium.
