It's pretty cool. In thick woods you need the ir light but open areas normally draw in enough light to go without. You can also sync it with your phone and all kinds of other things. Record video. Take photos. Rangefinder. Save different profiles for different guns/calibers or yardage. I watched deer till 8:30 yesterday evening when they finally left
