A Tale of Two Crush Washers, or Two Crush Washers One Barrel, and other AR oddities

Brownell’s carrying handle upper receiver.

The hole for the forward assist pin was located wrong.

Tried multiple FA’s, including 2 from FCD.

Hole was located too close to the body of the FA, and would pin the FA in place so it couldn’t move.

Told the customer to send it back to Brownell’s for a replacement or refund.

What is going on with jacked up receivers these days. That's the third brand of receiver I heard of being defective.

cmshoot cmshoot how many AR riffles do you work on per year to get this many problems and any manufacturers should we stay away from that has higher percentage of these problems. ( not the owner inflicted ones of course we know who did those lol)

On an average week, I can work on 20-30 different AR's, in some fashion.

Stay away from any BCG that is NiB'ed, and be very skeptical of any that are nitrided. If it isn't full-milspec (at the least), then shy away. Milspec BCG's are very easy to get nowadays, and they're $160 and less. There are valid "milspec+" BCG's and bolts on the market, but most are marketing hype.

Anderson and S&W barrels tend to be way overgassed (gas ports too large). Any fix for that, other than a new barrel, is a Band-Aid.

Stay away from anything from BCA.

Don't use a Law Folding Adapter unless you have a burning need that outweighs the possibility of making the firearm less reliable, and introducing a hinge to what was a solid part (introducing a weak point). Won't fit in your backpack? Get a bigger backpack.
