A VERY CLOSE CALL, TO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

I am in WV at the moment, heading back home after picking up a motorcycle today. We decided it would be best to get a room at sunset. I have never seen so many dead deer on and in the road.

Big buck messed my truck up pretty good about 2 years ago. I was working in Gadsden and traveling home to Rome around midnight. I was just about to get into Leesburg and smacked one going 55MPH. Luckily I could still drive my truck home and to and from work while I saved for my deductible. Wifes swears I hit a person walking down the side of the road, but I showed her the deer hair embedded in the bumper so she would believe me. Now I work in White, GA and travel through Kingston at night, I see about 4-5 deer on the side of the road, both dead and alive every day. Not to mention but the headlights on the Ram 1500 suck balls.

It's not hard to figure out the rut season is here. All the dead deer on the side of the road is just rediculous. I was coming home from Lynchburg over the weekend and I looked down at the time on the radio. When I looked up I was about 2 feet from a deer head. I swurved just in time to miss him. I swear his nose hit paint just enough to clean it for him. I tell you up here in Virginia you have to be very careful when driving in these mountain roads. They are everywhere. I see at least two or three off to the side of the road feeding. Needless to say my heart speed up a tad! I am not exaggerating that is was that close. He got lucky I looked up when I did.
Greg, glad you stayed safe, sir. There aren't enough good guys to go around. Surely do not want to lose any. Happy trails and may God bless America.

Swerving is bad. Front end damage is better than the alternative.
I didn't swerve into the other lane or anything like that. Just a foot or so. Just enough to miss his head. I don't like hitting animals it's a waste of God's creations. If I can help it but I'll do what I need to do to miss them. I'm not going to do enough to cause an accident or wreck my truck or anything like that.

I think it depends on how they install them. I know they work because I had a doe running across a field heading straight to cross the road and at about 10’ from the road and 50yrds in front of me she made a 90deg turn then went back towards field. Maybe coincidence, I don’t know. I also see deer pick their heads up when driving by.

I had a pair of deer whistles (properly installed) on my 1999 Ford Ranger. Daughter was driving right behind me and later said "I saw that deer run out of the woods and right in front of you Dad". 40 Mph and the dang doe jumped up and ran away, leaving me with a smashed hood, grill, headlights, broke 1 whistle and left poop pellets inside the broken grill area. My daughter stopped, saw everything was good and continued on to work.
