Ahhh you preppers are a bunch of nutjobs!

Not to derail, but this has me thinking about prepping in general. How useful is a small generator? My father-in-law has one of the small Honda ones that is enough to run his camper, but how useful would that be for home? I think you can only plug 2 or 3 things into it. Also, any general rules for minimum things to have on hand for your family at home? I'm sure there are sites devoted to this, but you guys are usually cool and share info freely.

I bet not a lot of Mormons in Georgia were caught unprepared by the snow/ice issues.

Bottom-line: mistakes happen and we can always do better, but at the end of the day, we all have to be responsible for ourselves and our won.

My buddy is a Mormon and they do keep prepping type items on hand. I seem to remember him having a barrel of flour in his basement. I believe they are instructed on what supplies to keep on hand at a minimum.

I had food and water, but one thing I didn't have was a milk jug - pretty hard to go PEE when you're surrounded by traffic and the flow is moving enough that you can't jump out to head for a bush.

I'd have no shame stepping out and peeing in the street. IT'S NATURAL!

This has my wife convinced for sure... She was in major Mama bear mode yesterday, get me to my kids! All worked out well, but this will make prep much easier now. May even be able to add another gun or two to the mix

I wonder how many folks stranded wish they some type of bugout/emergency bag with them? Maybe some food, water, warm clothes and a blanket? Perhaps trading in the BMW, for a decent 4x4? Ya'll know who's out there offering help to those stranded? Folks with the proper equipment. Just sayin.....

Next time someone looks at me like I'm some kook for thinking about the "what ifs" in life, they can go pound sand and will be quickly reminded of what happened yesterday.

That is a good point....But, this only happens like once every 5-10 years here in GA. I just don't think it's "justified".

Prepping should alway be on your mind. Driving to work yesterday I noticed my gas tank was about 1/3 full. Usually that is of no concern, but I risked being late to work to fill up. Good thing I did. I would have run out of gas on the long slow ride home yesterday afternoon. Also, I had my BOB/GHB.

Any generator in working condition is better than none. Also, the DC/AC converters for your car will work in a pinch for some items. Another is Gas Cans. During one crisis, all the 5
Gal. cans in town were sold out.

My GEN will run one furnace/AC unit, refrigerator and freezer alternately. Plus some small light circuits.

When I have more money than I know what to do with, I'll get a whole house GEN unit.

My point exactly. Self-reliance and preparing for such circumstances is, if I am not mistaken, a core part of church teaching.

Gas goes bad pretty quickly. Do you rotate the gas you have stored or just put something like Stabil in it for prolonged storage? I think some of the Doomsday Preppers are a little nuts, but being able to comfortably survive a short period of unrest makes a lot of sense.
