Anyone have a koi pond?

I had one and it was a complete pain in the ass. It was something the size of a small inground pool 20' x 20'. Best thing I ever did was fill it in with dirt.
This all day...my 82 yo mother has one and i maintain it for her, She paid 40k about 15 yrs ago(it's a beast) over 100 fish,a dozen or more 3 ft'rs (it;s netted)
I hate it,going tom aft for a repair/maint deal because she can't find anybody reliable for service.

Wife’s older brother had a beautiful koi pond, his was on the Atlanta tour.
Sat down in his breakfast nook with his coffee one morning, to gaze at the serenity, just in time to see a large heron swallowing the last of his prized fish.
My friend has a nice koi pond by lake Hartwell but he has a fake heron statue standing guard (herons are very territorial and won’t encroach) as well as a fake alligator head floating. His koi are all still alive after several years.

Had one growing up. Birds are not your friends. You need a lot of Britain around the edges for the fish to hide in

Here’s my friend’s setup…
