ar pistol law question please help

hey im starting a build and have a stripped lower my question is if I want to build an ar pistol do I have to have an ar lower that registerd as a pistol lower or can I build one off my standard lower just to fit the specs of a ar pistol

A stripped receiver is transferred as "other" on a 4473. It can go either way as a rifle or a pistol, that's why someone 18 to 20 but not yet 21 can't purchase a stripped receiver from an FFL. They can purchase a completed lower built as a rifle but not a stripped lower.
