According to a new report released by the Atlanta Police Foundation, overall crime in the city of Atlanta is the lowest it has been in 44 years.
Chief George Turner said that "analyzing crime statistics is an integral part of the policing strategy and (helps) our ability to improve operations."
The report compares the 2013 calendar year to 2012. In that time, the report shows there was a decrease in Part 1 crimes of more than 33 percent since 2002.
Total crime, according to the report, dropped 30 percent in Atlanta from 2002 to 2012 compared to 14 percent nationally.
