Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians."
On a side note. AQ literally translates to "the base"... but, in some areas of the Arab world this expression translates to "the toilet." So, if this was a grassroots international Muslim organization hell bent on world Islamic domination, just like the gov and media tell us, then don't you think they would have chosen a name that doesn't translate into "the commode" in some Arab countries?

In the end terrorists have killed far fewer folks in this country than obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, or drunk driving. Too bad we don't spend billions reforming the food industry, that would have a real effect on saving lives/

Well. You are using logic and reason. It is the same reason that we drive everywhere and rarely think about dying in a car wreck, but then we get all nervous when we get on plane when you are much more likely to die in a car wreck.
