Backyard chickens…

I have 13 laying hens now and they go through:
40lb bag of scratch and 40lb bag of crumbles about every 2 to 3 weeks.
I have a 1/2 acre for them to forage on and they get food scraps.

Add those costs in along with having to feed chicks for 6 months before you get a single egg.
 
Here we go. Trying to decide if we build/buy a coop or let them roam

I guess I have less time than I thought. My wife decided to order 10 hen chicks. Better get to coop building pretty quickly!
The 6 p’s prior planning prevents a pppss poor performance. Before building anything, have a plan or you’ll end up doing it twice.

My son in law has been raising chickens for years and when he saw these videos he realized how much time he could save by adopting some ideas.
