Bermuda grass questions

So cutting my grass once every two weeks is allowing it to grow up instead of sideways? Two times a week? Interesting.

I don't know anyone that mows more than once a week, there are some but very very few. It's just not practical. If you are doing it every 2 weeks, you can look at the lower part of the stem (1/2 to 2/3) and will see that there is little to no foliage almost like a mature hardwood forest that has self pruned with no understory.

A lot of what is stated as "should be or should do" is under ideal watering/rainfall. So if you don't have irrigation, mowing to a low height isn't going to work here in the south. So if you don't have a means of steady irrigation, go ahead and scalp early spring and gradually raise your height throughout the growing season. You may end up at 2.5" or even 2.75" in wetter years by the end of the season mowing weekly. If you are mowing every other week, you'll probably end up above 3" and the conditions I stated above. If you have irrigation or good rainfall you should be able to keep under 2.5 -2.25" at the season's end with a rotory mower or 1.75-2" with a reel mower. This would be assuming average soil conditions.

I water every other day, mow once a week at about 3 inches high, and used lesco fertilizer. Why are some areas not filling in, why some areas not green, and why do I have dollar spots?

Chinch bugs. Looks just like the spots I had in my yard once. Google how to look for them. Seems like I used a plastic pale or something with the bottom cut out and worked it into the soil then filled with soapy water. They will come to the top if you have them.

OK sort of a hijack.

Once a year @ this time my front yard looks good (to me) so I have to take a photo so I remember this when it starts looking like @%^*

Zeon Zoysia and a reel mower and water.

Bermuda can look similar with plenty of water and fertilizer and a reel mower.
