Before tackling Duck hunting go buy yourself a case of 00 Buckshot and find the best Dove Field around in September. Make sure you shoot every single round in the case with your eye resting right on the scope. When you are finished come back and talk to us about duck hunting.

Excellent advice. The scope eye rest is often overlooked by beginning duck hunters. The eye strain is reduced dramatically when you use the eye rest as it was designed.....

If he is good enough to hit a duck with a rifle then I don't see a problem with him getting a duck hunting scope.

The scope, set on 9x, will cover you for those distance shots, but you really need a bayonet for close encounters.
