The best hunting scopes for $1000 or less, according to Joe Rhea. I'm sure there are many other good options, but this seems like a reasonable list.

From the video, top 5, in no order:
  • Leupold VX-Freedom 4-12x40
  • Meopta Optika6 2.5-15x44
  • Zeiss Conquest 3-12x44
  • Swarovski Z3 any of them
  • GPO 1.5-9x44
Honorable mentions:
  • Maven 3-12x44
  • Tract 2.5-15 (he mentions illumination, so I think he's talking about the TORIC 30mm tube options)

I’ve had very good luck with scopes for the most part. I don’t buy top end but I don’t go super cheap either. There are a lot of great choices in the mid range.

Brands I’ve been happy with on multiple optics: Zeiss, Swarovski, Meopta, Leupold. Yes, Leupold has its haters but I have been happy with everything I bought new from them.

Leupold VX5 HD (magnification level is fielder's choice, but I favor 2-10). Last one I picked up was demo unit from EuroOptic and it was 759.99 plus tax and shipped free (if memory serves).
