Beware the man with one gun...

I always like the sks for a all around rifle. Its got the juice to take deer and pigs, and with the fixed 10 round mag its reliable as well as fast. I've spent a small fortune getting my siminov set up the way I wanted. Tapco t6 stock ( not that I have anything mounted, just like the adjustable LOP), tech sights mounted over the reciver cover, and replaced the origional rear sight with a rail and topped it with a sightmark ultra reflex sight.

To fill the rest of the niches, gotta have a shotgun ( make mine mossberg)
Ruger 10/22
Sig sp2022

everything else is just gravy

I am new to this scene, but have been around guns for my entire life. I view it more as a multipurpose situation. In 12 months I now have 3 nice handguns and will probably have another before the month is out. I keep hearing about break-in's, muggings, and theater shootings + things of that nature, and I suppose until now I was ignorant thinking my large size would be enough to scare away anyone. Well, I have since realized that there are many crazy people out there, and you have to defend yourself and your family. I carry when I need to, I always have 9mm near the bed (if they get past the dogs), and I plan on having many more guns in my collection. I just need to find a good gun safe soon to really start my collection. There is no such thing as having too many guns.

Well, there is a such a thing as too much guns, if you can't afford to buy ammo, glass, and other accessories. But overall, I'd agree with you. As long as you can feed and clothe 'em, there's no such thing as too many.

I just downsized this week, let a 9mm and a .45 go, now I have 2 competition pistols (9mm), 1 Sig p938 (9mm), Mossberg 500 and an AR. I'm looking for a 10/22 takedown and honestly that might be it for me for a while (yeah, right, I say that but I doubt I'll stick to it).

My five guns I think I NEED. I have a few others, and want a lot more, but these are the main ones I use and don't plan to get rid of anytime soon.

Rem 700 VTR .308
Rem 870 12 ga.
Ruger 10/22 .22
Kimber Super Carry Pro HD .45
LWRC M6A2-SPR .223

I have a Mossberg 500 12ga w/ the 28"choke bbl and a 24" ported rifled bbl call it what you may i call it my multi-purpose lol have a Winchester model 270 pump .22 accurate but hates cheap ammo lol so I only keep cci it loves that stuff. My deer rifle is a 742 in 30-06 its accurate I've never had any problems out of it. Then there is my H&R model 176 10ga got it from here waiting on the foregrip screw from Numrich so I haven't shot it yet. I got it because it was the first 10ga I'd ever run across in my life and couldn't pass up the great deal... Thanks Again Old Fogie. I have a black powder 50 for when I wanna do like they did back in the day lol not real big on muzzle loaders but they are fun to shoot. Oh and my sidearm is a Para USA Gi Expert in .45acp I love that thing! I know it's not a colt or Kimber but its accurate and honestly I can't afford the price of the name... lol I never claim to be a marksmen but if I can see it I can hit it period.

Went to Wichita today. Cabelas had a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39. Very sweet little rifle. It was very light, shouldered and pointed well, and had nice balance. The action was very smooth and the trigger was amazing. When set, the trigger is reported to break at 1# even. I believe it. The sights were ok. The rear leaf is very robust and the front is hooded for protection. The fit and finish were excellent, as well.

A gunstore just down the road from Cabelas had a Ruger GSR. Wow. I thought the extra pound and a quarter would be noticeable, but it was not. The rifle is superbly balanced and just feels right when on the shoulder. The sights are amazing. I guess there is a reason the ghost ring system is the mil standard in the US. I had heard complaints about the action being gritty, but on this particular example, it was as smooth as silk. The trigger had a very clean break with no take up that I noticed. The mag release is conveniently placed in front of the trigger guard, similar to an AK, but it is much easier to operate. The 3 position safety is a nice touch as well. Also, fit and finish are superb.

Overall, my first handling of each rifle left me extremely impressed. While I think the CZ is an absolute gem of a carbine, I just feel the Ruger has more going for it. 10 round capacity vs 5 is a big deal. Also, it slings .308 vs 7.62x39. I am a HUGE fan of x39. However, if a rifle is going to be the proverbial "One," it needs to be as universally capable as possible. Despite my infatuation with the short, fat, Russian round, I realize that the 7.62x51 round is much more capable than x39.

I was originally leaning towards the CZ just for the fact that I already have oodles and oodles of x39. But, if I am going to do this, I'm going to do it right. So, the Ruger GSR it is. Now I just have to worry about the insignificant aspect of fundage.

I always like these threads .. usually get some things to ponder.

drewga11 : you have a very good 5 gun base . I finally added a 336 series in 30-30 caliber last year to a very similar base , just felt a need. I think the .308 is one of the better choices to build around though. Love mine and it shoots sierras out of the box like a champ.I do have my beloved .35 caliber that ammo is harder to find but feel it's a great base gun too, especially if you have core lokts stocked in safe. The trusted Ruger 10-22 should be a mandatory own.

Good Posts by all..
