I know a guy who “Mines” part time. He once told me he could earn about 1 BTC per day... Is there any truth to this? I don’t know enough about the actual process other than it takes some serious gear.

The difficulty of the hash rate increases over time and coins mined. He might could have at one point but I doubt it now.
