I say build at least 10 "go to" ARs with quality parts (Sig, Mega Arms, BCM, Spikes, etc.), then buy about that many from top tier manufacturers (Colt, Daniel Defense, etc.), then reserve the other 40 or 50 backup ARs (PSA, Anderson, AR Stoner, etc.) to plinking at family get togethers. That's what I did before the big flood that wiped me out and flipped my boat.

Looking at an honest build.
Then again it depends on the purpose : mainly home defense you don't really need a free float rail or magnified optics.
I don't own one cause I keep missing all the sales but I like to recommend a Colt OEM 1, add furniture of your choice and a carry handle or solid fixed rear sight and go to work.

Sionics, if not bcm. Nothing boutique, just quality that works. BA Hanson profile barrels are good if wanting a thinner profile with minimal poi shift. Colt is great but it's the 20th century and there's no reason to buy a carbine gassed rifle
