Building first AR15

Get you a nice NF or Leopold scope, maybe a top quality Sig or Vortex on the cheaper end.

Man, what a rabbit hole. It goes about as deep as you want to go.

For the upper: Speaking for parting one together, and assuming you're willing to wait for deals to come up, a BCM blem upper, paired with one of their blem BCG's (when they have them) would be a solid start. Yes, you will need to thermal-fit the barrel, but that's not a big deal at all.... From there, if you can wait until about September 19th, White Oak Armament has their annual "Talk like a pirate day" sale, during which their SPR barrels (16-20", stainless) are $100 off/around $225. Excellent barrel for the money.

The trigger is the next big thing; you can't go wrong with TriggerTechs. I've used Larue's so far, but a TriggerTech Diamond is on the roadmap to replace one of them.

For handguards, just pick one that isn't a flimsy POS and has the features you want... If you stick with a .750 or .625 non-adjustable gas block, virtually all of them will fit. Google "larue handguard length chart" to see how different lengths look. Midwest Industries makes good stuff, as do many others.

I thought they were on the same scale as bear creek?

BCA is bottom barrel, with radical holding hands.

With a $800 budget on upper, the PSA Sabres line is going to be good for the $$. And leaves you room for a better quality scope.

On the lower, you can go cheaper as well but spend $$ on a trigger from Geissele and a stock that best fits you. I like the "old" Sopmod stocks myself.

Especially if you're looking for 20 inch uppers, as most of those are clone builds until you get into the higher dollar stuff.

If wanting to go 16 inch, then a BCM or Daniel Defense would be my recommendation and within the budget if you wait for a sale.

Edit: saw where you have a lower already and want a free float handguard and fixed stock. I would build it out with PSA parts and then get a Larue or Geissele 2 stage trigger.

Plenty of decent upper options available. PSA is fine for a 250yd range rifle.

Is an optic included in your $800 budget?
