Building first AR15

greg vess greg vess tell Alex what the problem is here.
He is he is going over the problem with the customer service agent at Rainier Arms. The agent agrees it's definitely not up to their standards as far as accuracy. The agent is taking the situation to their head gunsmith to figure out the problem. They're doing everything they can to try to rectify the problem and he's expecting a call back from Rainier Arms today. I've already went over all the possibilities with him that there could be but he's just getting a bad Barrel. I've never gotten a bad barrel for them and all the barrels I've gotten them shoot around half MOA or better. I've ordered three in the last 2 years and every one of them shoots bullet in bullet hole hits. I also put together a 6 mm Arc for a buddy mine up here and his shoots the same way. One ragged hole three shot groups. Rainier Arms uses Shilen blanks so the potential is there it's just something is wrong with that barrel. He's tried 10 different ammos and only one seems to shoot well and that's just not indicative of Rainier Arms Ultra Match barrels for sure. They'll get it straightened out.

After I saw the first range Day report I actually sent a email to Rainier Arms that he was not happy with the outcome. They took the time and actually reached out to him first. So customer service is really going above and beyond trying to take care of him..

I will agree their customer service has been phenomenal this far!

This is a pic of a glop of crap pulled out a new barrel. The pellet didn't come out the barrel but the pellet is used here for reference only. Oil and metal shavings of the same composition of the barrel. If nylon brushes are used to prevent premature wear the what do you think this would do if shot out of the barrel. I wouldn't shoot shoot it first with that crap in it and I don't think any shooter worth his salt would. I am not sure what brand barrel it was but this can happen with any manufacturer.

Well, they know you know vess. They’re gonna do wtf you tell em to do or else.
I don't order anyone to do anything. I recommend or suggest things to try in an effort to eliminate certain problems areas. I have had my share of problems with new builds so I had some experience with certain problems. The AR-15 platform is a very easy platform to diagnose. There just isn't that much to try. It's not like a car where literally a 1000 things could potentially cause a problem or exacerbate one. The AR-15 is just a simple machine. A very simple machine!

This thread needs an Old English version of this post:

Lo! He doth parley with yon servitor of Rainier Arms, discoursing most gravely upon the wretched barrel. Verily, the agent proclaimeth, “Aye, ‘tis not of our noble standard, nor doth it strike true!” Straightway he carrieth the grievance unto their High Gunsmith, that wizard of steel and fire, for judgment and remedy. With all their might they strive to set the matter aright, and he awaiteth anon a herald’s call from the House of Rainier.

I, for mine own part, have already trod the path of every possibility, yet the truth is plain: the man hath been cursed with a most ill-fortuned barrel. Ne’er before hath mine eye beheld such, for all mine own Rainier tubes shooteth nigh unto half a Minute of Arc or better—aye, bullets kissing bullets, holes within holes, a merry dance of lead. Three barrels have I summoned these past two years, and each one singeth the same sweet tune. Nay more! I wrought a 6mm Arc for a good companion, and behold—it too maketh but one ragged hole with three-shot salvos. Forsooth, Rainier useth Shilen blanks, so the potential is as vast as the heavens. ‘Tis but this one barrel that hath gone astray. Though he hath wooed it with ten diverse ammunitions, only one answereth kindly, and that is most unworthy of Rainier’s vaunted Ultra Match lineage. Yet I doubt not they shall straighten it forthwith.

Indeed, upon the first lament from the range, I myself dispatched a missive to Rainier Arms, declaring his displeasure. To their great honor, they didst not tarry, but reached out to him unbidden. Truly, their service to the customer exceedeth measure, and methinks they go above and beyond, as knights sworn to uphold the good name of their House.
